Students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) blocked a road in Dhaka’s Agargaon area today (4 November), protesting the government’s decision to relocate the Secretariat to the former Dhaka International Trade Fair grounds.
The students took position on Mirpur Road in front of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre at around 12:15pm, bringing traffic to a halt.
They chanted slogans against the relocation plan and held placards during the protest.
After blocking the road for around 30 minutes, the students withdrew at approximately 12:45pm.
Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying the students had temporarily blocked the road but had since left the area.
Traffic was moving normally after their withdrawal, he added.
Fazlul Haque, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon Division, said the students had blocked the road for 15–20 minutes, disrupting traffic.
Traffic movement returned to normal after the protesters withdrew, he added.
