Sylhet Division witnessed a decisive victory for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the 13th national parliamentary elections, with the party claiming 18 of the division’s 19 seats. The 11-party alliance’s Khelafat Majlis secured one seat, while Jamaat-e-Islami failed to win any.
The results, compiled from the returns provided by candidates’ polling agents, show that as of 12:15am, the returning officers had yet to officially announce any results from their offices.
District-wise winners
Sylhet: Out of six parliamentary seats, BNP candidates won five. Khandakar Abdul Muktadir won Sylhet-1, Tahsina Rushdir Luna claimed Sylhet-2, MA Malique secured Sylhet-3, Ariful Haque Chowdhury won Sylhet-4, and Emran Ahmed Chowdhury took Sylhet-6. Khelafat Majlis’ Mufti Abul Hasan emerged victorious in Sylhet-5.
Sunamganj: BNP achieved a clean sweep of all five seats. The winners are Kamruzzaman Kamrul in Sunamganj-1, Nasir Uddin Chowdhury in Sunamganj-2, Koyes MA Ahmed in Sunamganj-3, Nurul Islam Nurul in Sunamganj-4, and Kalim Uddin Milon in Sunamganj-5.
Moulvibazar: All four seats went to BNP candidates. Nasir Uddin Ahmed Mithu won Moulvibazar-1, Shawkatul Islam took Moulvibazar-2, M Naser Rahman claimed Moulvibazar-3, and Haji Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury won Moulvibazar-4.
Habiganj: BNP also swept all four seats in Habiganj. The winners are Reza Kibria from Habiganj-1, Sakhawat Hasan Jibon from Habiganj-2, GK Gaus from Habiganj-3, and SM Faisal from Habiganj-4.
