Jenna Ortega says her early media training hurt her sense of boundaries.
The Wednesday star spoke about it reently on Josh Horowitz’s podcast, Happy Sad Confused.
She went through the training as a young actor on Disney Channel as she starred in the show Stuck in the Middle from 2016 to 2018.
Ortega said Disney staff gave the young cast a message. They said that when someone meets you, it may be the only time they ever interact with you.
They told the cast to remember that it is a special moment in that person’s life. “No pressure!” Ortega joked. She said those words have “never left” her.
She added that she is now trying to be kinder to herself. She also admitted to working on setting better boundaries. She said she does not always stop for photos when a situation feels unsafe. She gave the example of a random grown man. She said she is happy to meet kids.
Ortega said many fan meetings are sweet. Others feel embarrassing, aggressive or mean. She said it is hard to know where the balance lies. “I do what I can,” she said.
The actor will next appear in the movie Klara and the Sun.
