A fire erupted at a star hotel in Cox’s Bazar today (23 October), forcing around 300 tourists to flee to the nearby beach — just a week after a blaze at Tuptup Resort on Marine Drive killed 10 people.
The fire broke out around 4pm in the ground-floor parking area of The Sea Princess, a nine-storey hotel near Sugandha Point, reports Prothom Alo.
More than 100 rooms were occupied at the time, according to local sources.
Smoke billowing from the parking area caused alarm among passers-by and hotel staff. Tourists quickly evacuated the building and took shelter on the nearby beach.
A unit of the Fire Service reached the scene at 4:20pm. Firefighters, assisted by hotel staff, brought the blaze under control in around 30 minutes.
The fire damaged the parking area, including a generator, as well as some other parts of the hotel. No casualties were reported.
