Special Response Battalion (SRB)-8 has strengthened security measures in Barishal for Durga Puja, inspecting 75 of the 90 puja mandaps covered by its arrangements.
Of the 90 mandaps, 46 are within the Barishal City Corporation area and 44 are outside it. The measures aim to maintain law and order, ensure the safety of worshippers and visitors, and preserve communal harmony.
Durga Puja, one of the Hindu community’s principal religious festivals, draws large crowds to mandaps. SRB-8 is coordinating with the local administration, other law enforcement agencies and puja celebration committees to ensure peaceful and uninterrupted celebrations.
Security measures include monitoring CCTV systems, maintaining regular contact with volunteers, deploying uniformed and plain-clothes personnel, using body-worn cameras and conducting special patrols.
The battalion has also established a control room to respond promptly to emergencies and untoward incidents. People requiring urgent assistance have been asked to call 01777-710899.
Speaking at a press briefing after visiting Shankar Math Temple in the city, SRB-8 Commanding Officer Mohammad Zakiul Karim said ensuring the safety of all citizens, regardless of religion or community, and maintaining communal harmony were among the battalion’s responsibilities.
Personnel were remaining vigilant and carrying out their duties responsibly to prevent any individual or group from creating disorder during the festival, he said.
Shree Shree Shankar Math Temple President Limon Krishna Saha, General Secretary Chinmoy Das and others attended the briefing.
Puja celebration committee leaders, volunteers, local elected representatives and members of the public were urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
They were also asked to report suspicious individuals, objects or activities promptly to the relevant authorities and refrain from spreading rumours or false information on social media.
SRB-8 said its personnel would continue working with professionalism and dedication, supported by all concerned, to ensure that Durga Puja is celebrated in a peaceful, safe and festive atmosphere.
