The Biman Bangladesh Airlines has suspended its Dhaka-Riyadh-Dhaka flights until further notice, citing unavoidable operational reasons amid reported security threats and flight disruptions in Saudi Arabia.
In an emergency notice issued today (10 October), the national flag carrier announced the suspension of flights BG339 and BG340.
The airline did not explicitly link its decision to the security situation in Saudi Arabia, where reported missile and drone attacks have disrupted aviation operations and prompted flight cancellations by several international carriers.
Biman has advised passengers booked on the affected flights not to travel to the airport until further notice.
The airline said it was closely monitoring the situation and would issue an update on Sunday (11 October) regarding the suspended flights and any revised schedules.
Biman also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers and their families by the suspension.
Affected passengers have been advised to contact the airline’s call centre or visit their nearest sales office for assistance.
Further updates will be published through Biman’s official website and communication channels as new information becomes available, the airline said.
The suspension comes amid heightened security concerns in Saudi Arabia following attacks attributed to Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels on key aviation facilities, including Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport.
According to the information provided, an explosion at Riyadh airport on Saturday injured several people and prompted the evacuation of parts of the facility. The incident followed repeated missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi airports in recent days.
Several international airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, Emirates, Etihad Airways and flydubai, have reported cancellations or disruptions to their Riyadh services amid the deteriorating security situation.
The latest disruption has raised concerns for passengers travelling between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, a major overseas employment destination for Bangladeshi migrant workers.
