State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has called for greater opportunities for girls to participate in sports and cultural activities alongside their studies, saying they should be able to represent Bangladesh internationally.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the annual cultural and prize-giving ceremony of Lalmatia Girls High School and College in Dhaka today (8 October).
Hajjaj emphasised that students ought to have the opportunity to engage in sports of their choosing, such as chess, badminton, football, and cricket. Educational institutions should ensure adequate grounds, training, coaching and equipment, he said.
He assured the students of all possible support from his side to encourage them in sports.
Hajjaj said female students were a source of pride for the country and needed opportunities to develop their skills and leadership in education, sports and culture to take greater responsibility for Bangladesh’s future.
He said the government was willing to support infrastructure development and improvement of educational standards at institutions, while parents and school authorities should also extend their cooperation.
Praising the students’ achievements in cultural activities and sports, Hajjaj said regular programmes in these areas were important for developing their talents.
College principal, Mohammad Kamruzzaman, chaired the event. The Governing Body Chairperson, Runa Laila, was present, along with teachers, students, and guardians.
