Special Response Battalion (SRB) has arrested Al Amin, known as Pichchi Al Amin, a police-listed criminal accused in 27 cases including the murder of top criminal Kaillya Palash, along with two associates in the capital’s Rampura area yesterday (1 October).
The arrests were made around 1:30pm during a raid in the TV Road area under Rampura Police Station. A foreign-made revolver and five rounds of ammunition were recovered from the trio.
The other two arrestees were identified as Khairul and Kamal.
Wing Commander MZM Intekhab Chowdhury, director of the law and media wing of SRB-3, confirmed the arrests to The Business Standard.
He said Al Amin had been involved in various criminal activities in Rampura, including collecting extortion money from construction sites, markets, shops, tempo stands, cable TV operators and internet service providers.
On 27 September, Al Amin and his associates allegedly attacked Green Zone Online, an internet service provider in Banasree, he said.
The group allegedly demanded Tk20 lakh in one-time extortion from the company and threatened to collect Tk5 lakh every month if it continued operating, he said.
The SRB official also said Al Amin has 27 cases filed against him with different police stations and is a named accused in the murder case of top criminal Kaillya Palash.
