Police have arrested three people, including Md Murad, who is accused in 16 cases, in connection with a clash between two groups over establishing dominance in Bakalia of Chattogram city.
The other two arrested are Suman, 35, and Ruhul Amin. They were arrested during an overnight operation on Sunday (27 September).
The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) disclosed the information in a press release this morning (30 September).
According to police, the two groups clashed around 10:30pm on Sunday in front of Morshed Tower on Syed Shah Road in Bakalia over establishing dominance.
During the clash, the groups threw bricks and stones at each other and vandalised the windows of CNG-run auto-rickshaws travelling along the road.
Police said the incident created a situation that could have resulted in damage to public property and disruption of public order.
Later, a special team of Bakalia police launched an operation. During the overnight drive, police arrested Murad, the first accused named in the case filed over the clash, along with his two associates, Suman and Ruhul Amin.
According to the CMP, a review of Murad’s Police Clearance/Criminal Record (PCPR) found that he is an accused in 16 cases filed with different police stations in the city.
Legal proceedings are underway against the arrested individuals, police said.
