The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested another suspect in a case filed over the attack, vandalism, looting and gunfire at New Gini Properties near ECB Chattar in the capital.
The arrestee has been identified as Mizanur Rahman, 59.
He was arrested from the Matikata area of Mirpur around 5pm today (28 September), confirmed Md Akhtar Hossain, deputy commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division.
He said Mizanur is a named accused in the case filed over the attack on the housing project at ECB Chattar. “Legal proceedings against him are underway.”
On Saturday (26 September) around 11pm, several people entered New Gini Properties near ECB Chattar in Mirpur and carried out an attack, vandalism and gunfire. They also looted the property.
During the attack, a studio named BrownFish, owned by popular content creator Salman Muqtadir and located inside the housing project, was vandalised and looted.
New Gini Properties Director Md Saiful Islam Bhuiyan filed the case with Cantonment Police Station on Sunday afternoon.
The case names 13 people and includes 150-200 unidentified individuals as accused.
According to the case statement, the incident caused damage worth Tk1.42 crore and involved the looting of equipment worth Tk1.50 crore. It also alleged gunfire, vandalism and injuries to several people.
As of now, seven people have been arrested in the case. Of them, two were arrested by the DB and five by Cantonment Police.
