Three college students were killed when a bus hit their motorcycle in Barishal’s Wazirpur yesterday evening (28 September).
The accident occurred around 6:30pm in the Atipara area of the Dhaka-Barishal Highway, police said.
The deceased were identified as Sourav Dhali, 14, son of Kabir Dhali of Atipara village; Tawhid Islam, 13, of the same village; and Mostakin, 14, son of Monir Hossain of neighbouring Dhamsar village.
Faruk Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Wazirpur Model Police Station, said the three friends had gone out on a motorcycle in the evening.
“When they reached the Atipara area, a Dhaka-bound Suravi Paribahan bus hit their motorcycle. All three, including the motorcycle rider Sourav, died on the spot,” he added.
According to the inspector, on information, police and firefighters from Wazirpur Fire Service and Civil Defence recovered the bodies and sent them to Uzirkur Health Complex.
Police seized the bus following the accident, but its driver and other staff members fled the scene.
Traffic on the highway remained halted for around 30 minutes after the accident. It resumed after police reached the scene and brought the situation under control.
Legal proceedings in connection with the accident were underway.
