Shama Obaed urges concrete action towards Palestinian statehood.

Bangladesh has reaffirmed its support for an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state within pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and called for concrete steps to implement the two-state solution.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam made the remarks yesterday (24 September) at a high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, with ministers and senior representatives discussing measures to translate the two-state framework into practical steps.

In her remarks, Shama Obaed also called for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations.
She urged accelerated implementation of arrangements under UN Security Council Resolution 2803, with clear accountability and Palestinian ownership.
The state minister also called for protection of the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and sustained funding for the agency.
She further called for preventing forced displacement and demographic change in Gaza and ending the expansion of settlements.
Ministers and senior representatives from UN member states and international organisations attended the meeting, where participants discussed concrete steps to advance implementation of the two-state solution.
