Crude bomb explodes in Mohakhali, another blast heard in Agargaon

A crude bomb thrown from the Mohakhali flyover exploded this evening (18 September), while another explosion was heard in front of Betar Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon, police said.

The crude bomb was thrown from the flyover in the Amtoli area around 5:45pm, said Mohammad Faridul Islam, officer-in-charge of Banani Police Station.

“We are looking into who was behind the explosion,” he told The Business Standard.

In Agargaon, an explosion was heard in front of Betar Bhaban in the evening.

Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam told TBS that police had heard about the explosion but could not immediately determine whether it was caused by a crude bomb or a firecracker.

“No evidence has been recovered from the scene yet,” he said.

Earlier in the day, two crude bombs thrown from a three-storey flyover exploded on the main road near Malibagh Rail Gate, Shahjahanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Amirul Islam told TBS.

“Two crude bombs were thrown from the three-storey flyover at around 3pm. They fell onto the road and exploded,” he said.

Later, multiple crude bombs exploded in front of Jatrabari Police Station, with several blasts heard near the station’s main gate around 7:40pm, according to Mohsin Masud Rana, additional deputy commissioner of the Demra Zone under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Wari Division.

Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Raju told TBS that the sound of four to five crude bomb explosions was heard in front of the station.
