Seven dengue patients died and 1,753 new cases were hospitalised across the country in the last 24 hours, marking the highest single-day number of dengue admissions so far this year.
The latest figures have taken the country’s dengue death toll to 171, according to a press release issued today (16 September) by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest daily hospitalisations surpassed the previous highest count of 1,733 cases, recorded on 14 September.
Of the seven deaths reported in the latest 24-hour period, one each was recorded in Chattogram, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions, while three deaths were reported in Khulna Division.
Meanwhile, 1,638 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals during the same period, taking the total number of recoveries this year to 52,579.
With the latest cases, the cumulative number of dengue infections reported across the country this year has reached 56,916, according to the DGHS.
The sharp rise in daily hospitalisations comes amid a continued increase in dengue infections across the country, with health authorities reporting record levels of hospital admissions in recent days.
