Measles: Death toll reaches 1,036 as 6 more children die

Six more children died from measles and measles-like symptoms in 24 hours until 8am today (15 September), bringing Bangladesh’s combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 1036.

With the latest update, the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 936 while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths has reached 100, according to the daily update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 1239 new suspected measles cases were reported during the 24-hour period, bringing the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 1,73,959.

Meanwhile, 77 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 20,201.

Since 15 March, a total of 1,53,279 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country, of whom 1,47,386 have recovered, according to DGHS.
