DU forms 3 committees to probe recent controversial Ducsu activities

The committees will investigate the ‘DU Evaluation’ website, ‘Nirbhik July’ memorial and controversial photos displayed at the Ducsu archive.

The Dhaka University administration has formed three separate committees to investigate a series of recent controversial activities involving the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu), including the launch of a website, installation of a memorial and display of photographs of Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah and former student leader Abdul Malek at the Ducsu archive.

The administration announced the formation of the committees in a press release issued tonight (14 September).

The committees have been asked to submit their reports, along with recommendations, within seven working days. The university authorities will take further action based on their findings.

For the investigation into the website launched by Ducsu under the name ‘DU Evaluation’, the university has formed a six-member committee headed by the pro-vice-chancellor (administration).

The other members are the pro-vice-chancellor (education), dean of the Faculty of Law, dean of the Faculty of Business Studies and director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The university registrar will serve as member-secretary.

A separate five-member committee has been formed to investigate the installation of a memorial titled ‘Nirbhik July’ by Ducsu without approval from the university authorities, despite the existence of specific laws governing such matters.

The committee will also be headed by the pro-vice-chancellor (administration), with the deans of the Faculties of Business Studies and Law and the proctor as members. The university’s estate manager will serve as member-secretary.

Another five-member committee, also headed by the pro-vice-chancellor (administration), will investigate the display of the controversial photographs of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Abdul Malek at the Ducsu archive.

The dean of the Faculty of Law, dean of the Faculty of Business Studies and the proctor will serve as members of this committee, while the estate manager will be the member-secretary.
