Jubo Dal leader accused of assaulting two Titas train counter staff in Brahmanbaria

A Jubo Dal leader has been accused of assaulting two ticket counter staff of the Titas Commuter train at Brahmanbaria Railway Station.

The incident took place around 11:30am today (14 September). Counter Manager Mohin Uddin Sajib and Booking Clerk Md Kawsar Hossain were injured.

The accused, Nazmul Huda Sunny, is a joint convener of Brahmanbaria municipality Jubo Dal.

The ticket counter has remained closed since the incident, causing inconvenience to passengers.

The injured staff alleged that Nazmul had long been trying to secure the agency rights for the Titas Commuter train, which operates on the Brahmanbaria-Dhaka route. However, the company that operates the train under lease had not responded to his request.

They alleged that Nazmul was unhappy over the matter. This morning, he called booking clerk Kawsar, but Kawsar did not answer the phone.
Nazmul then allegedly went to the counter and slapped Kawsar. He also assaulted Counter Manager Sajib, they claimed.

Following the incident, tensions rose at the station and the employees closed the counter.

Nazmul, however, denied the allegations and accused the counter staff of regularly selling tickets to black marketeers for Tk200-Tk300.

“Passengers have told me that they come to the counter but cannot get tickets. Even when there are 300-400 tickets, they sell only 100 at the counter and sell the rest to black marketeers,” he said.

“I went to the counter and asked them about this. We had an argument, but the allegation that I assaulted them is false,” Nazmul added.

Brahmanbaria Railway Station Master Md Sakir Jahan said, “I heard allegations that the counter manager and booking clerk were assaulted while selling tickets. However, they closed the counter and left after the incident, so we could not contact them.”

Md Shah Alam Mia, in-charge of Brahmanbaria Railway Police Outpost, said, “We have heard about the allegation. The matter is being looked into.”
