The government has temporarily suspended Superintendent of Police (SP) AFM Nizam from service after he tested positive in a drug test.
The Police-1 branch of the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a gazette notification in this regard. Dated 10 September, the notification was uploaded to the ministry’s website today (14 September).
According to the notification, SP AFM Nizam was attached to the office of the Deputy Inspector General of police of the Rangpur Range. He left Police Headquarters on 8 January to attend the ongoing DSCSC-2026 course in Mirpur.
During the course, he fell ill on 7 June and was sent to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka Cantonment for treatment.
As part of medical examinations conducted on the advice of specialist doctors, he underwent a drug test. The test returned positive for benzodiazepines and amphetamine/methamphetamine.
The notification said the matter was contrary to the discipline of the DSCSC course.
Under these circumstances, AFM Nizam was temporarily suspended from government service on 31 August under Rule 12(1) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
The notification further stated that he would receive a subsistence allowance in accordance with the rules during the period of suspension.
Issued in the public interest, the order takes immediate effect.
