Police recovered the bodies of two unidentified men from separate locations in Dhaka’s National Eidgah area today (12 September).
Shahbagh police recovered the bodies from pavements between 11am and 11:30am, confirmed the Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Toufiq Hasan.
According to police, one body was found under a banyan tree beside the main gate of the National Eidgah, near Kadam Fountain. The other was recovered from a pavement beside a water pump near the Supreme Court, opposite the Education Building.
The deceased were estimated to be around 65 and 45 years old, respectively, police said.
“They are believed to have been homeless and may have died from illness,” SI Toufiq Hasan told The Business Standard.
He said members of the public spotted the bodies in the morning and informed police. Officers later recovered them and sent them to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies.
“Based on their clothing, we believe the two men were homeless. We suspect they died from illness. However, the exact cause of death will be known after the autopsy reports,” he said.
Police have informed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to help identify the deceased.
As of 6pm, their identities had not been established, the SI said.
