A group of government officials and employees gathered at the entrance to Minto Road, beside Hotel InterContinental in the capital, today (6 February), demanding the implementation of the ninth national pay scale, as police used tear gas, water cannons and batons to disperse protesters, leaving at least three people injured, according to demonstrators.

Meanwhile, protesting government employees blocked the road from Banglamotor to Shahbagh, causing disruption to traffic, as part of their ongoing movement to press home their demand for the implementation of a discrimination-free ninth pay scale.
Earlier yesterday, under the banner of the Bangladesh Government Employees’ Demand Realisation Unity Council, government employees formed a human chain and blocked roads at the Agargaon intersection in the capital, demanding the implementation of a discrimination-free ninth pay scale.
