Police detained 65 foreign nationals from Chattogram’s Khulshi area yesterday (10 September) on suspicion of involvement in online scamming.
The detainees include nationals of China, Pakistan, Laos and several other countries, said Mohammad Abdur Rahim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khulshi Police Station.
Police also seized 68 laptops and 65 mobile phones during the raid, he added.
The OC told The Business Standard that it had not yet been confirmed whether all the detainees were involved in online scamming.
He also said police would examine the information stored on the seized laptops and mobile phones to identify those involved.
The CMP Cyber Crime Unit had been working on the matter for a long time, Abdur Rahim said.
The raid began around noon yesterday and was still ongoing, he added.
With help from cyber experts, police are examining data from the seized devices and other relevant information, the OC said, adding that those found involved in online scamming will face legal action after verification.
He further said that police will provide details officially after the raid ends.
