Measles: Death toll reaches 994 as three more children die in 24hrs

The health directorate recorded the deaths of three children with measles and measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours preceding 8am today (6 September), taking Bangladesh’s combined toll of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 994.

Of the total, 100 deaths were confirmed to have been caused by measles, while 894 involved children who died with measles-like symptoms, according to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 1,043 new suspected measles cases were reported, taking the nationwide tally to 164,148.

Another 55 laboratory-confirmed cases were recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed measles infections to 19,696.

Since 15 March, when the DGHS began issuing regular updates, 144,168 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country.

Of them, 138,772 have recovered, according to the latest DGHS data.
