Body of unidentified man found with mouth taped shut on Dhaka Elevated Expressway

Police recovered the body of an unidentified man with his mouth bound with adhesive tape from the Dhaka Elevated Expressway in the capital this morning (4 September).

The man was wearing a blue shirt and lungi resembling the clothes usually worn by CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers.

However, police have yet to confirm his identity or occupation. Police recovered the body from the expressway at around 8:45am, said Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge Faridul Islam. He estimated the man to be between 35 and 50 years old.

“His clothes were similar to the blue uniform worn by CNG drivers. White tape was attached to his face. We suspect miscreants killed him and dumped his body there sometime during the night or early morning,” he said.

Police said the man was found wearing a blue shirt and lungi, with his face bound with Scotch tape.

Although officers suspect he may have been a CNG-run autorickshaw driver, this is based solely on his clothing and has not yet been confirmed. The entire Dhaka Elevated Expressway is covered by CCTV cameras.

Police are investigating how the body was taken to and dumped at the site despite the surveillance.

“We have CCTV cameras throughout the Elevated Expressway. We will collect and analyse the footage. This may provide important information about when and how the body was brought there and who was involved,” OC Faridul said.

Banani Police Station Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam said police are investigating the incident and that further details will be disclosed after the investigation.
