A Bangladeshi man was killed in a landmine explosion inside Myanmar near the Naikhyangchhari border in Bandarban this morning (24 August), police said.
The deceased was identified as Md Saiful, 35, son of Saber Ahmed of Painchhari area in Dochhari Union of Naikhyangchhari upazila.
The explosion occurred around 10am near Border Pillar 52, according to Naikhyangchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mozammel Haque.
He said Saiful was injured in the blast and was rescued and taken to Naikhyangchhari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead after examination.
Quoting people living in the border area, the OC said the explosion occurred inside Myanmar, around 400 metres from the Bangladesh-Myanmar zero line, near the Duillyazhiri camp, which is under the control of the Arakan Army.
The mine was allegedly planted by the Arakan Army, he said.
At least five people have been killed and more than 31 injured in landmine explosions along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border over the past year, according to local sources.
