The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today (24 August) approved proposals to import a total of 365,000 tonnes of fertiliser at a combined cost of around Tk2,562 crore from Saudi Arabia, Russia, Morocco, Canada and domestic producer Kafco.
The approvals were given at a CCGP meeting held at the Secretariat with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
Of the total, 80,000 tonnes will be urea, 115,000 tonnes MOP, 80,000 tonnes DAP and 60,000 tonnes TSP.
The committee approved the import of 40,000 tonnes of granular urea from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia at a cost of Tk188.66 crore. The price has been set at $380.83 per tonne.
It also approved the import of 35,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Russia’s JSC “Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg)” under a government-to-government agreement with the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).
The procurement will cost Tk166.43 crore, with the price fixed at $383.80 per tonne.
Under the G2G arrangement between Morocco’s OCP NUTRICROPS, S.A and BADC, the committee approved two lots of 40,000 tonnes each of DAP fertiliser.
The fourth lot will cost Tk443.06 crore and the fifth lot Tk442.89 crore, with the price for both lots fixed at $894 per tonne.
The committee also approved two lots of TSP fertiliser from OCP NUTRICROPS, S.A.
The fifth lot, comprising 30,000 tonnes, will cost Tk252.01 crore at $678 per tonne, while the sixth lot of 30,000 tonnes will cost Tk248.20 crore at $668 per tonne.
Besides, two lots of MOP fertiliser, each comprising 40,000 tonnes, will be imported from Canadian Commercial Corporation under a G2G agreement with BADC.
The first lot will cost Tk190.13 crore and the second Tk189.83 crore. The price for both lots is $383.80 per tonne.
The committee further approved the import of 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from Saudi Arabia’s MA’ADEN under a state-level agreement with BADC.
The procurement will cost Tk440.33 crore, with the price set at $891 per tonne.
In another proposal, the CCGP approved the purchase of 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (Kafco), Bangladesh, for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The second lot of Kafco urea will cost Tk133.57 crore, with the price fixed at $359.50 per tonne, including an FOB price of $354.50 and a bagging charge of $5.
All the proposals were recommended for approval by the committee.
The fertiliser procurements are part of the government’s efforts to maintain adequate stocks of key agricultural inputs and ensure timely supply to farmers.
