The BNP’s National Standing Committee Member Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has been appointed acting secretary general of the party.
The appointment was made under Article 7(b)(6) of the party’s constitution and takes effect immediately, according to a BNP press release issued today (20 August).
Rizvi, a senior BNP leader, has long served as the party’s senior joint secretary general and has been a prominent spokesperson for the party.
His appointment comes after his predecessor Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir resigned and contested in the presidential election.
Fakhrul was elected 23rd president of Bangladesh today, securing 255 votes during the election held in parliament.
