Shobha Chakma, who was critically injured, was later sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for better treatment. She died on the way to Chattogram.
Sumon Chakma is undergoing treatment at Rangamati General Hospital. He suffered fractures to one hand and one leg and sustained a head injury.
“At around 5am, we left Kalyanpur with goods to go to the Kutukchhari market. When we reached near the Sapchhari-Manikchhari police checkpost, the pickup suddenly lost control and crashed into a wall,” Sumon Chakma said.
Jikel Chakma, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver and eyewitness, said he was travelling behind the pickup when he suddenly saw it crash into the wall. Local residents later helped take the injured to hospital.
Litton Chakma, a relative of Shobha Chakma, said the market in Kutukchhari is held every Sunday and Shobha was also going there to sell goods. She died on the way to Chattogram after the accident.
Mohammad Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Rangamati Kotwali Police Station, said the pickup crashed while carrying raw materials to the Kutukchhari market.
“Three people died at the scene. One critically injured person was sent to Chattogram. She later died while undergoing treatment,” he said.
“The two injured people are undergoing treatment at Rangamati General Hospital,” he said.
The bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue and will be handed over to the families after legal procedures, the police official added.
