Actress and model Ridhika Ridhi was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area early today (15 August).
She was found hanging from a ceiling fan at around 6am and was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead, said Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Vatara Police Station.
After being informed, police took custody of her body at Kurmitola General Hospital and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
He also said police initially suspect that Ridhika, who was from Madaripur, died by suicide.
Citing her family, the OC said Ridhika had been in a relationship with a man and had an argument with him early in the morning while they were on a video call.
According to the police, her mobile phone showed evidence that she had been on a video call.
“Legal action is being taken in the case. We are registering a case based on the family’s complaint,” Mazharul Islam said.
Vatara Police Station Sub-Inspector Wadud said Ridhika’s national identity card, obtained from her family, lists her name as Leena Akter.
Alongside modelling, Ridhika acted in several television dramas, including Ekhane Manush Bikri Hoy, Bohurupi, Double Honeymoon and Shundori.
