Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman has written to president requesting the convening of a special session of parliament to address the country’s ongoing severe power and energy crisis, as well as the deteriorating socioeconomic and law-and-order situation.
According to a Facebook post shared today (14 August) by the Jamaat, copies of the letter were also sent to the prime minister and the Parliament Secretariat.
In his letter, Shafiqur said, “The country is currently facing a severe power crisis. Widespread load-shedding has made people’s lives miserable while severely affecting industrial production, business and commerce. The direct impact of the power and energy crisis has increased the prices of essential commodities and caused a serious deterioration in the overall law-and-order situation, pushing people into a state of extreme uncertainty.”
“As representatives of the people, we cannot remain silent during this crisis,” the letter reads, stressing that meaningful parliamentary discussion and the pursuit of immediate solutions are essential to address the situation.
Shafiqur urged the president to convene a special session of Parliament at the earliest to facilitate urgent measures to resolve the nationwide power and energy crisis and other associated problems.
