Truck driver murder case: Charge hearing against Sheikh Hasina, 33 others set for 1 Sep

A Dhaka court today (13 August) has deferred the hearing on charge framing against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 others in a case over the killing of truck driver Md Hossain in the capital’s Mohammadpur area during the July Uprising, setting 1 September for the next hearing.

Judge Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 fixed the new date after a hearing this morning, said State lawyer Omar Faruk Faruki.

He said four of the accused could not be produced before the court as they are currently detained in other cases. The court deferred the charge-framing hearing to 1 September after the prosecution sought their production in the case.

Meanwhile, eight of the 34 accused were produced before the court, while the rest remain absconding.

According to the case statement, Md Hossain, a truck driver by profession, was shot dead in the Chand Udyan area of Mohammadpur on 19 July, 2024, during the Students Against Discrimination (SAD) movement.

He was returning home after parking his truck in Gabtoli when he was shot and died on the spot.

On 31 August 2024, the victim’s mother, Rina Begum, filed a murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station.

Following an investigation, Sub-Inspector Akramuzzaman submitted a charge sheet against 34 people, including Sheikh Hasina, on 23 November 2025. Other high-profile accused in the case include former ministers Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Hasan Mahmud, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and banned Chhatra League leaders Saddam Hussain and Sheikh Wali Asif Inan.

Among the accused, Palak, former MP Sadek Khan, Forkan Hossain, and Shahjahan Khan are currently in custody.
