Green chilli prices have fallen in several markets in the capital, with the vegetable now selling for Tk280-320 per kg, down from Tk400 last week.
The price has dropped by Tk80-120 per kg this week amid reports of imports.
The current price of green chillies varies between Tk280 and Tk320 per kg depending on the market and quality, according to visits to several markets in the capital today (7 August).
Sellers said prices started to decline after imports began.

Vegetable seller Md Sabuj said traders often increase and reduce prices at their discretion.
“Traders suddenly raised prices after the rain. Now that imported chillies have arrived, prices have fallen, but they are keeping the chillies in storage,” he said.
He added that prices of other vegetables remain relatively high due to rainfall last week.
Meanwhile, prices of some vegetables have also started to decline, similar to green chillies.

Long eggplant, which sold for Tk120 per kg last week, is now selling for Tk80-100 per kg, depending on the market. Round eggplant, however, remains expensive at around Tk150 per kg.
Cucumber prices have also fallen slightly, with the vegetable now selling for Tk60-80 per kg depending on quality.
Ridge gourd, bottle gourd, pointed gourd, sponge gourd and snake gourd are selling for Tk80-100 per kg, depending on the market.
Taro stems are priced at Tk80-100 per kg, while taro roots are selling for Tk70-80 per kg. Bitter gourd is selling for Tk90-120 per kg.
Private-sector employee Sattar Hossain said high vegetable prices were putting pressure on consumers.
“Ordinary people can hardly afford to buy vegetables. Buying just two or three vegetables costs Tk300-400. Fish and meat are also expensive. I no longer feel any relief when I come to the market,” he said.
Meat and egg prices
Chicken prices have not fallen in the meat market. Broiler chicken is selling for Tk200 per kg, while Sonali chicken is priced at Tk350 per kg.
Beef is selling for Tk780-800 per kg.
White eggs are selling for Tk140 per dozen, while red eggs are priced at Tk140-150 per dozen depending on size.
Fish prices remain high
Tilapia is selling for Tk250-260 per kg, while pangas is priced at Tk250 per kg. Shrimp is selling for Tk1,000-1,300 per kg depending on size.
Boal is priced at Tk650-700 per kg, while rui and katla are selling for Tk380-400 per kg.
Hilsa prices have also increased. Fish weighing 900 grams to 1kg is selling for Tk2,500 per kg, while a 1.3kg hilsa is priced at Tk3,200 per kg.
