Five coaches of a commuter train derailed near Gafargaon Railway Station in Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh today (7 August), suspending train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route.
Around 9:30am, just before the Dhaka-bound Jamalpur commuter train entered Gafargaon Railway Station, according to Officer-in-Charge Md Akhtar Hossain of Mymensingh Railway Police Station.
Witnesses said the train suddenly made a loud noise before the five coaches behind the engine veered off the track. No casualties or major damage were reported.
Train services on the route were suspended following the derailment, OC Hossain said, adding that a relief train from Kewatkhali Loco Shed was dispatched to the spot to salvage the derailed coaches.
Several trains, including the Dhaka-bound Haor Express and Brahmaputra Express, remained stranded at different stations following the incident, causing immense suffering to passengers.
