Political parties, government institutions and socio-cultural organisations will observe the second anniversary of the July mass uprising and the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August 2024 with programmes across the country today.
The ruling BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, the NCP, Gono Odhikar Parishad and other organisations have arranged rallies, discussions, commemorations, exhibitions, concerts, prayer gatherings and cultural events.
At 9am, Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the July Museum dedicated to the martyrs of the July Uprising.
At noon, Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed will attend a reception for the families of July martyrs and July fighters at the China Friendship International Conference Centre and present prizes at a drawing competition organised by the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat.
In the morning, tributes will be paid to the July martyrs in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh. BNP Vice-Chairman and Liberation War Affairs Minister Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan and Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan are scheduled to attend.
The health ministry will hold a discussion at 3pm in memory of the martyrs, while the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will host a poetry event titled Borsha Biplober Kobita at 4pm. A photography exhibition in Gulshan-2 will be attended by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The 11-party alliance will hold a rally at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 10am demanding implementation of the referendum verdict.
Jamaat-e-Islami will inaugurate a photo exhibition titled “July Ekhono Shesh Hoy Nai” at 4pm at the official residence of the leader of the opposition on Minto Road. The exhibition will run until 8pm today and remain open from 11am to 8pm tomorrow and the day after.
The Forum of Engineers and Architects will also organise a remembrance exhibition, drawing competition and memorial conference, to be attended by Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.
The Monsoon Cultural Alliance will stage the Borsha Biplober Gaan concert at Manik Mia Avenue featuring Artscell, Shironamhin, Ark, Asif Akbar, AvoidRafa, Sezan and Kureghor.
Gono Odhikar Parishad’s Dhaka North unit will visit the graves of July martyrs at the Rayerbazar Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at 4pm, while the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and Dhaka Union of Journalists will bring out a victory rally from the National Press Club at 11am to mark the victory of the student-led mass uprising.
