A Dhaka court has once again deferred the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Tariquzzaman Sunny, marking the 42nd postponement of the investigation report.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman passed the order today (3 August) and fixed 6 September as the next date for submission, confirmed ASI Munia Akter of the prosecution department.
The case was scheduled for submission of the investigation report today. However, the investigating officer, SI Mashiur Rahman of the Kutubpur River Police Outpost, failed to submit the report on the scheduled date.
According to the case statement, Tariquzzaman Sunny, an architecture student at Buet, went on a trip with 15 others to Mainot Ghat in Dohar upazila of Dhaka on 14 July 2022, where he went missing.
Following his disappearance, divers from the Fire Service conducted a search operation but were unable to locate him despite searching throughout the night.
His body was recovered from the Mainot Ghat area around 11:26am on 15 July.
On the same day, Sunny’s elder brother, Hasanuzzaman, filed a murder case with Dohar Police Station, naming the 15 people who had accompanied him on the trip as accused.
They were arrested after the case was filed but have since all been released on bail.
The accused are Shariful Hossain, Shakil Ahmed, Sejan Ahmed, Rubel, Sajib, Nuruzzaman, Nasir, Maruf, Ashraful Alam, Jahangir Hossain Liton, Noman, Zahid, ATM Shahriar Momin, Maruful Haque Maruf, and Rokonuzzaman, also known as Jitu.
