Biman Bangladesh Airlines will resume its direct Dhaka-Narita service tomorrow (27 July), restoring the route after more than a year as the national flag carrier seeks to strengthen air connectivity with Japan.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam and State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat will inaugurate the service at 12:30am at the VVIP Gate of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The first flight, BG376, is scheduled to depart Dhaka at 2:00am after the inauguration ceremony.
Biman suspended the Dhaka-Narita route on 1 July 2025, citing concerns over commercial viability, aircraft shortages and high operational costs.
However, Afroza Khanam recently said the route had shown positive signs of profitability before its suspension.
Following the formation of the current government, Biman was instructed to resume the service as part of efforts to strengthen Bangladesh–Japan relations and improve connectivity for trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
The restored route is expected to enhance travel links between the two countries and facilitate growing economic and business cooperation.
Biman previously operated direct flights between Dhaka and Narita as part of its Japan network, which serves a significant number of Bangladeshi expatriates, business travellers and tourists.
