The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has ordered prison authorities to produce four accused, including former Awami League lawmaker for Dhaka-5 Kazi Monirul Islam Monu, before the court on 3 August in a case over crimes against humanity committed in Jatrabari during the 2024 July Uprising.
The three-member International Crimes Tribunal-2, headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury passed the order today (22 July), after the prosecution filed a petition seeking their appearance, according to court sources.
The three other accused are former Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hasan, former General Secretary of Jatrabari Thana Awami League Harunur Rashid Munna, and former Ward No. 63 councillor of Dhaka South City Corporation Shafiqul Islam Khan.
The tribunal directed prison authorities to produce all four accused before the court on 3 August.
According to the prosecution, the case relates to killings in Jatrabari during the July Uprising, in which eight people were killed on 18 July 2024 and another nine on 20 July 2024.
The prosecution alleges that the incidents constitute crimes against humanity.
On 21 April last year, Kazi Monirul Islam Monu was arrested from the capital’s Gulshan area.
