Active monsoon conditions and favourable weather patterns over the northern Bay of Bengal are expected to sustain heavy to very heavy rainfall in Dhaka and many other regions of the country for at least the next two days, according to the met office.
Persistent rainfall across Dhaka and several other parts of Bangladesh disrupted daily life today (12 July), with water-logging in low-lying areas causing significant hardship for office commuters, students and city residents.

BMD Director Momenul Haque said Dhaka recorded 82mm of rainfall in six hours till noon.
The capital received 98mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, he added.
Momenul said rainfall is expected to continue across most parts of the country over the next two days, although its intensity is likely to weaken from 14-15 July onwards.
During that period, northern Bangladesh may experience comparatively higher rainfall, he added.
Momenul further noted that Chattogram received nearly 1,000mm of rainfall within just four days after 5 July.
He described the unusually intense precipitation over such a short period as an impact of the El Niño phenomenon.
He added that similar weather patterns are being observed not only in Bangladesh but also across other South Asian countries, including India and China.
Meteorologists said the monsoon remains active over the northern Bay of Bengal, which is expected to keep rainfall ongoing across most parts of the country, including Dhaka, for at least two more days.

Isolated areas may experience heavy to very heavy downpours.
Meanwhile, in view of the adverse weather conditions, the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to continue displaying local cautionary signals.
