Rangamati district administration have imposed a temporary travel ban on tourists visiting Sajek Valley due to continuous heavy rainfall and the risk of landslides.
The decision was announced in an emergency public notice issued by the media cell of the Rangamati district administration at around 7:30pm today (7 July), reports Prothom Alo.
Signed by Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi, the notice said the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s storm warning centre had forecast adverse weather, while continuous heavy rains in the Rangamati hill district had already triggered landslides and disrupted communication in several areas.
“Considering the existing weather conditions and potential risks, Sajek Valley tourist spot in Baghaichhari upazila has been temporarily closed from Tuesday evening until further notice to ensure the safety of tourists and the public,” the notice said.
During the restriction period, travel to all tourist spots, waterfalls, hill trails, remote areas and other risk-prone locations in Sajek Valley will remain completely prohibited for tourists, tour operators and the general public.
The district administration also urged people to remain highly cautious while travelling in Rangamati due to the risk of landslides and requested everyone to follow official instructions.
