A Dhaka court today (28 January) placed Md Rubel Ahmed, a close associate of prime accused Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud Khan alias Shooter Faisal, on a fresh three-day remand in connection with the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order after a hearing, sub-inspector of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s prosecution division Mohammad Rukunuzzaman confirmed the matter.
Earlier, after producing the accused before the court following the end of a six-day remand, investigation officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Qadir Bhuiyan of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sought a further seven-day remand.
The court, however, allowed three days.
On 21 January, police arrested Rubel Ahmed from the South Keraniganj area of Dhaka. The following day, the court granted a six-day remand.
According to the case statement, Sharif Osman Hadi formed the political and cultural platform Inqilab Mancha after the uprising and had been serving as its spokesperson. On 12 December at around 2:20pm, assailants on a motorcycle shot him on Box Culvert Road under Paltan Model Police Station.
Hadi sustained critical gunshot wounds to his head and below his right ear. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on 15 December for advanced treatment. He died there on 18 December while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case with Paltan Police Station on 14 December, which was later converted into a murder case after Hadi’s death.
So far, 12 people have been shown arrested in connection with the case.
