A joint task force will be formed to curb abduction, drug trafficking, and human trafficking in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf upazila, Chattogram-15 Jamaat’s lawmaker Shahjahan Chowdhury has said.
“Authorities will also prepare a list of those involved in abduction and human trafficking, identify their local collaborators and launch coordinated operations through the task force,” he told reporters after a special meeting of the Teknaf upazila Law and Order Committee held at the Upazila Parishad conference room today (4 July).
Shahjahan said the meeting discussed ways to improve the overall law and order situation in Teknaf, strengthen security, and prevent drug trafficking, smuggling, and other criminal activities.
“We have also discussed recurring abductions in Teknaf’s hilly areas and human trafficking through maritime routes, and outlined measures to tackle those crimes,” he added.
The upazila administration organised the meeting, which was chaired by Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan.
Representatives of the Bangladesh Army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Coast Guard, among others, attended the meeting.
