NCP leaders hold rally in Dhaka on 26 Jan/ Collected
The National Citizen Party (NCP) on Monday (26 January) held a protest rally condemning an attack on an election meeting of Md Ariful Islam Adib, convener of the party’s Dhaka Metropolitan North unit and the 11-party alliance-backed candidate for the Dhaka-18 constituency.
The rally, organised by the party’s Dhaka Metropolitan South unit, began at around 7:00pm from in front of its Banglamotor office in the capital.
Protesters marched past the InterContinental Hotel, and ended at Banglamotor.
The procession was led by Dhaka Metropolitan South Convener Alauddin Mohammad, Member Secretary SM Shahriar, and NCP Joint Convener and Dhaka-9 parliamentary candidate Jabed Rasin.
Alauddin Mohammad said the attack on a leader of the 2024 uprising in Dhaka had created serious concern.
He alleged that attempts were being made across the country to intimidate opponents and disrupt the electoral environment, while the administration remained silent, raising doubts about a free and credible election.
He demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack and called on the administration to ensure security of candidates across the country.
