Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the FY2026-27 budget proposed Tk4.5 crore for a feasibility study of the planned Paturia-Daulatdia second Padma Bridge.
He disclosed the information today (24 June) in response to a written question from reserved-seat opposition lawmaker Nurunnisa Siddiqua in parliament.
The lawmaker had asked whether any allocation had been made in the proposed budget or Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the long-awaited bridge between Daulatdia in Rajbari and Paturia in Manikganj.
In his reply, the finance minister said, “The second Padma Bridge is one of the key projects included in the government’s election manifesto. The Bangladesh Bridge Authority under the Bridges Division is currently in the process of appointing a consultant to conduct the feasibility study. The project has been recommended for inclusion in the unapproved new project list (Green Page) of the FY2026-27 ADP,”
“No allocation has been made for construction of the bridge in the upcoming ADP, but Tk4.5 crore has been earmarked from the Bangladesh Bridge Authority’s own budget to carry out the feasibility study”, he added.
According to the minister, the study will assess the project’s viability, estimated cost and other technical aspects, paving the way for its future implementation.
