A long-distance passenger bus lost control and overturned in the capital’s Mohakhali area early today (6 June), leaving the driver’s assistant dead and two others injured.
The accident occurred at around 6am in the Amtali Kitchen Market area, police said.
The deceased was Rafiq, 35, a resident of Mymensingh. His body has been kept at the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Banani Police Station Sub-Inspector Nazmul said the “Bhati Bangla Paribahan” bus arrived in Dhaka from Netrokona with three to four passengers on board.
The driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle in the Amtali area, crashed into a road divider and overturned, he added.
“His assistant became trapped beneath the overturned bus and suffered critical injuries,” he said.
Rafiq was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 8am.
The police officer added that the driver and one passenger sustained minor injuries, but their conditions are not critical.
