Three people were detained in Teknaf after allegedly attempting to kidnap a four-year-old American citizen of Bangladeshi origin, according to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The detainees were identified as Kefayet Ullah, 24, son of Hafez Ullah of Naittong Para; Shahab Uddin, 28, son of Abdus Salam from Natun Pollan Para in Teknaf; and Abdur Rajab Mia, 35, son of the late Kamal Hossain of the same area.
The information was disclosed in a press release issued yesterday (3 June) by ASP AM Faruk, assistant director (Law and Media) of Rapid Action Battalion-15, Cox’s Bazar Battalion.
According to RAB, the victim’s father is originally from Natun Pollan Para in Teknaf but is now a US citizen.
The child had arrived in Teknaf about a month ago with his parents to visit his grandfather’s home.
AM Faruk said the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon (2 June) in Natun Pollan Para, where the four-year-old child was allegedly abducted after being found alone.
Local residents noticed the incident and chased the suspects and eventually managed to detain the alleged abductors in the West Godarbil area.
After being informed, a RAB team rushed to the scene, rescued the child and took the three suspects into custody.
RAB said the child is being handed over to his parents, while the detainees have been transferred to Teknaf Police Station for legal action.
