Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ali Akbar Khan has been appointed as acting chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The CID confirmed the information in a press release today (2 June).
According to the release, Police Headquarters yesterday issued a notification appointing Ali Akbar Khan as the acting head of the specialised investigation unit.
The position had remained vacant since 17 May, when former CID chief and Additional Inspector General of Police Mosleh Uddin Ahmed was appointed commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Ali Akbar Khan was born in Chandpur district on 21 September 1967.
He joined the Bangladesh Police in 1995 through the 15th Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) cadre.
During his career, he served in several important units, including range police, Police Headquarters and the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The CID described him as a dedicated and efficient officer who earned recognition for professionalism and integrity throughout his service.
To strengthen his professional expertise, Ali Akbar Khan participated in various international training programmes, seminars and workshops at home and abroad.
Among them were a workshop in Italy titled “Promoting Regular and Legal Migration, Preventing Human Trafficking, Discouraging Irregular Migration and Repatriating Irregular Migrants” and another in the Maldives on “Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (TIP/SOM) Data Collecting for South Asia”.
The CID said he also took part in several other international professional training programmes during his career.
