Commerce, Industries, and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir warned against mismanagement, syndicates, and wastage in the sacrificial hide trade during a surprise visit to the rawhide trading centre at Amin Bazar in Dhaka today (28 May).
The visit was aimed at observing whether the collection, preservation, and marketing of sacrificial animal hides were being carried out properly on the ground, reads a press release.
During the visit, the minister spoke with rawhide buyers and sellers, warehouse operators, and traders to assess the market situation, pricing, preservation facilities, and overall operations.
Speaking at the site, Muktadir said the government is attaching the highest importance to ensuring proper management of rawhides during Eid-ul-Adha.
Describing the leather industry as an important sector of the country’s economy, he urged all stakeholders to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity and professionalism.
The minister also said regular field-level monitoring activities will continue.
