Kids Review ‘Sarniezz’ by Angine de Poitrine
These children have a lot of thoughts about Angine de Poitrine’s song “Sarniezz (Live on KEXP),” which has been receiving loads of attention on TikTok. Is it disturbing? Creative? Nonsensical? They discuss it all with our critic, Jon Caramanica, on this special edition of Song of the Week.

I don’t understand why this is the song of the week. – It’s very popular on TikTok. – No surprise. – The song of the week is — – Angine de Poitrine! – It sounds like SpongeBob. – This song is just total nonsense. – I didn’t really like it. – Kind of boring and no meaning. – I think this is a little bit disturbing. – It sounded like farting and why do they have big noses? – I would not recommend watching the music video unless you want to be blind. – I feel like that the characters do look a little creepy. – I need help putting my tag back on. So, Angine de Poitrine is, I don’t know, a freak rock band? This song is part of a live session that’s been getting a tremendous amount of attention on TikTok recently, and I’m going to be honest, I scramble to understand why. I scramble just as hard as these guys are scrambled. [freak rock (?) music playing] – Finally, a song with no words. – I think it actually kind of makes sense that it doesn’t have words. – It’d be really hard to make words that actually make sense for this song like — [guttural scatting] [screechy gibberish] – I liked the music. – So there’s real musicianship on display in this song. I hear fluency in jazz. I hear fluency in certain corners of avant-garde rock. Maybe fluency in Primus? – The music was kind of all over the place, but I think I could like, kind of appreciate that because it must have taken like time to put that all together. – It was creative. Just not good. – But all that said, this strikes me as avant garde for normies and the costumes really helped speed that along. – They have like a complicated name. They have a complicated outfit. And they also have complicated music. [stunning rendition of “Party in the U.S.A.” by Miley Cyrus]
