The Padma Bridge witnessed a surge of homebound traffic during the Eid-ul-Adha journey, with nearly Tk10 crore collected in toll revenue over the past 48 hours, highlighting the high travel demand across the key southern gateway.
On the third day of the Eid journey, vehicular pressure remained significant on the Padma Bridge and the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway.
However, coordinated efforts by the relevant authorities ensured that no major traffic congestion was reported.
As Eid approaches, people continued travelling towards the southern and southwestern regions today (27 May) as well.
In the last two days, a total of 89,610 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge, generating toll revenue of Tk98,33,39,800 during this 48-hour period.
According to Executive Engineer of the Padma Bridge Abu Sayad, during the 24 hours from 12am yesterday to 12am today, 30,094 vehicles crossed the bridge from the Mawa end, generating Tk2,87,47,500 in toll collection.
During the same period, 15,508 vehicles crossed from the Jajira end, generating Tk2,15,76,950 in toll revenue.
Altogether, yesterday (26 May), from 12am to 11.59pm, a total of 45,602 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge, with total toll collection amounting to Tk5,03,24,450 on that day.
On Monday (25 May), from 12am to 11:59pm, 28,415 vehicles crossed from the Mawa end, generating Tk2,64,21,000 in toll collection.
During the same period, 15,593 vehicles crossed from the Jajira end, generating Tk2,15,94,350 in toll revenue.
In total, 44,008 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge on that day, with toll collection reaching Tk4,80,15,350.
From early morning, increased pressure of buses, private cars, motorcycles, and vehicles carrying goods was observed on the bridge and the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway.
However, traffic flow remained normal due to additional toll lanes, a separate lane for motorcycles, and active monitoring by law enforcement agencies.
The bridge authorities said that special measures were taken ahead of Eid, including increased toll plaza capacity, additional manpower deployment, and traffic management support.
Members of the highway police, district police, Border Guard Bangladesh, and other relevant agencies continued uninterrupted duties.
Travellers said this year’s Eid journey has been comparatively more comfortable than in previous years, as the absence of long traffic jams on the Padma Bridge and the expressway allowed them to reach their destinations more quickly.
