A 60-year-old man has been accused of raping a seven-year-old girl in Satkhira, with police filing a case and launching efforts to arrest the suspect.
The incident allegedly took place on Saturday (10 October) on the rooftop of a house belonging to former Jhaudanga Union Parishad chairman Rafiqul Islam in Satkhira Sadar upazila.
The child’s grandmother identified the accused as Mosharraf Hossain, the former chairman’s brother-in-law. She alleged that he lured the girl to the rooftop before raping her.
The grandmother said she informed the former chairman about the incident but received no assistance.
Police rescued the child and admitted her to Satkhira Sadar Hospital this morning (13 October) for treatment and a medical examination.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam said police visited the scene and made inquiries after learning about the incident.
A case has been filed with the police station, and efforts are underway to arrest the accused, he added.
The girl’s father lives abroad, while her mother has started a family elsewhere. The child had been living with her grandmother in Oaria village.
