6-year-old girl’s body found in Lakshmipur pond four days after disappearance, another child still missing

The body of a six-year-old girl, identified as Lubna, was recovered from a pond in West Latifpur village of Chandraganj Union in Lakshmipur yesterday (24 September), four days after she went missing.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy, Arafat Hossain Shaheen, who went missing from Ramgati upazila, remains untraced.

Lubna was the daughter of Md Liton of Sardar Bari in West Latifpur village.

According to Chandraganj police and local sources, Lubna went missing from in front of her home in West Latifpur on the afternoon of 21 September.

Her family searched various places but could not locate her. Later that day, her mother, Runu Akter, filed a general diary (GD) with Chandraganj Police Station.

Yesterday, several locals spotted the child’s body floating in a pond and informed police. Police later went to the spot and recovered the body in the afternoon.

Chandraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rob said yesterday night that the body had been sent to the morgue of Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

“Necessary action will be taken after the investigation,” he said.

13-year-old Arafat still missing

Meanwhile, 13-year-old Arafat Hossain Shaheen remains missing after he went missing from the Char Poragachha area of Ramgati upazila.

According to his family, Arafat left his home in Char Poragachha on Saturday (19 September) for his madrasa in Torabganj of Kamalnagar upazila. He is a student of the madrasa’s Hifz section.

His family has had no contact with him since he left home.

Arafat’s mother, Shahinur Begum, filed a GD with Ramgati Police Station yesterday afternoon.

Following this, family members and madrasa teachers searched various areas of Lakshmipur, but no trace of him was found.

Arafat’s father, Abul Bashar, said the family and madrasa teachers had searched several places but had yet to find any information about his son.

Relatives and local residents have urged the authorities concerned to take prompt and effective measures to determine the cause of Lubna’s death and locate Arafat.
